Over three terms we will explore the world of 16th century England. The spring and summer terms will build on the introductory autumn term but each can also be taken as a stand-alone module.
Autumn Term 2026 – Meet the Tudors – An introduction to the main developments in English history during the 118 year Tudor period which witnessed the change and embedding of a new ruling dynasty, the concept of ‘personal monarchy’, the rise of parliament, the emergence of the nation state, the Reformation, changing relations with Europe, economic growth and the development of political propaganda played out by some of the most fascinating characters in our history.
Spring Term 2027 – Glorianna – The Age of Elizabeth – A more in-depth look at Elizabeth’s 45 year reign considering the issues facing both the queen and the woman.
Summer Term 2027 – Women in Tudor England – A look at the role of women in the paternalistic society of the 16th century and how they asserted agency in a world where they had no power.
